7 timeless Christmas crafts to make with your kids

It’s that time of year again: warm fireplaces, bright lights, egg nog, and of course, some crafting with our kids.

By now, your Christmas tree is probably up, donning all those special ornaments and decorations you’ve kept over the years. The ones that you hold dear to your heart. Some of these you may have even made yourself, once upon a time ago, when you were a child.

This year I decided to share some of my own favourite childhood Christmas crafts with my kids. These timeless decorations are easy enough for the smallest of hands to make.

Candy Cane Pipe Cleaners

What you need: Red and white Pony Beads, pipe cleaner, scissors
Directions: Cut the pipe cleaner in half (makes two candy canes), bend each end to secure beads, thread beads on

Clothespin Reindeer

What you need: three flat wood clothespins, one red Pom Pom, one white Pom Pom (tail), black marker to colour hooves, google eyes, small piece of red felt.
Directions: glue two clothespins (legs pointing down) together, glue third clothespin (legs pointing up) to the body. Glue on eyes, red pom pom nose and white pom pom tail. Cut red felt to size and glue on top of the two clothespins.

Salt Dough Ornaments

Recipe: 1 cup of salt, 2 cups of flour, 3/4 cup of water.
Directions: Mix ingredients together, cut out shapes, use a straw to make a small hole at the top, bake at 180C for approx. 30 minutes depending on the thickness of your ornaments.

Paper Chain

What you need: Red and green construction paper, a glue stick
Directions: Cut construction paper into strips (approx. 1-2 inches thick and 6-7 inches long), glue on ends to create a chain.

Sparkle Pinecones

What you need: Pinecones, glue, a paintbrush and sparkles
Directions: Use the paintbrush to paint the glue on the ends of the ouster edges of the pinecones, sprinkle on sparkles and let dry. Glue on a ribbon to hang on tree.

Popsicle Ornaments

What you need: Popsicle sticks, glue, decorations (pom poms, sparkles, felt pens, ribbon, etc).
Directions: Glue the popsicle sticks together and decorate!

Pom Pom Wreath

What you need: Cardboard, green pom moms, ribbon
Directions: Cut the cardboard into a thin circle, glue on pom poms, add ribbon to hang on tree.

Happy crafting, and Merry Christmas!
