When my first child was born, I brought up the subject of cloth diapers with my husband. He seemed curious enough and wanted to know more. After I explained to him the benefits, I told him how we would have to clean them.
“I have to do WHAT with the poo?!” he exclaimed.
I agreed. It wasn’t a very sexy process, but then again, there isn’t really anything sexy about being a first-time parent. And when everyone told me how tired I would get from taking care of my little one (and they were right), I decided to go with disposables. I had no idea that a service like Happy Baby Cheeks even existed in Metro Vancouver.
We’re closing in on our first week of a six-week free trial from the Happy Baby Cheeks Cloth Diaper Delivery Service. I have to say that I was a bit nervous to try cloth, but I was promptly put at ease with Happy Cheek’s customer service.
This family-owned business knows their diapers. They knew exactly what I needed as a first time cloth user. All I had to do was tell them the age and weight of my son and they delivered exactly what I needed. Having five kids in their own family, they really know how to make their cloth diaper service hassle free for parents.
We’re using the Happy Cheek Premium diapers. They are super simple to put on and they fit Jack perfectly. He’s a hefty nine-month-old, weighing in at 21 lbs, but the fit was not a problem at all. Although they are bit bulky compared to disposables, they don’t leak at all. And if you’re worried about nighttime, there a few easy inserts you can add to keep baby extra dry.
The pros thus far
- My house is cleaner. WAY less garbage, wipes, wipe wrappers and used diapers hanging around.
- Jack seems to be happy in the cloth diapers and has a bit more mobility.
- I feel guilt-free changing him.
- I find Jack’s bum to be clear of redness and blemishes that the tighter disposables give him sometimes.
Tip: When you sign up for Baby Cheeks, you can purchase a pail to keep your dirty diapers in. I live in a three-storey house and find it difficult to keep climbing the stairs to put the diapers in the pail, but if you ask Baby Cheek for an extra laundry bag, they’ll glad send it over free of charge. I now have one in all the rooms I change diapers in. At the end of the night, I dump them all in the pail and it just keeps changing them that much easier.
