Not everyone loves Elmo. It is in fact completely normal as a parent to cringe and want to plug your ears with crayons every time his high-pitched, insanely cheerful laugh forcefully penetrates your brain. For me, I can take about 20 or 30 minutes of Elmo’s singing before I feel it’s time for a compromise. I don’t mean a time-to-crank-the-Metallica kind of compromise, but rather a mix of rock ‘n’ rattle shall we say.
A go-to compromise in our house is our Rockabye Baby! albums. These albums are lullaby renditions of our favourite rock bands such as Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, and more modern bands like the Foo Fighters and Green Day. There are even a few Kanye West lullaby renditions if you’re interested in that type of music, but for me, Kanye falls into the same category as Elmo. And for you trendy/hipster rocker parents out there, there’s even a vinyl collection of Rockabye Baby! albums to peruse.
For us, these albums are the perfect way to end the day, take five, and best of all, we can actually sing along to them.
